SUKHOI SU-27K (SU-33) FLANKER

Development began in 1976, based on the production Su-27 Flanker with folding wings, movable foreplanes and other features for shipborne operation.
Navalized development of Su-27 with arrester hook flew in 1984 and extensively tested for arrested landing and ski-ramp take-off.
First prototype (T10K-1) flew on August 17, 1987. Prototype lacked folding wing, included double-slotted flaps and strengthened landing gear.
Second prototype (T10K-2) made first landing by Soviet aircraft on ship, the Admiral of the Fleet Kuznetsov on November 1, 1989.
Production began in 1990, with first production Su-27K flew in 1992.

Airframe generally similar to Su-27, but with folding wings and tailplane.
Added foreplanes, arrester hook and other features for carrierborne operations.
Strengthened landing gear with twin nosewheels.
Long tailcone of land-based versions shortened to prevent tail-scrapes during take-off and landing on ship.

Generally as Su-27, but hydraulically folding outer wings and upward folding horizontal tail surfaces.
Riveted and welded structure of aluminium and titanium alloys and steel.

As Su-27 - two 12,500 kg (27,557 lb) afterburning thrust Lyul'ka AL-31F turbofans - but with retractable flight refuelling probe beneath windscreen on port side.
Provision for centreline buddy refuelling pack.

Basically as Su-27/Su-34 for ground attack capability - 12 pylons.
Is reportedly able to carry Kh-31 (AS-17 'Krypton') ASMs underwing.
Exhibited with inert 4,500 kg (9,920 lb) Kh-41 (3M80 Moskit: mosquito) anti-ship missile on centreline, but considered as impracticable operational load.
Believed compatible with NPAZ-A buddy in-flight refuelling store.
